Season 2

Accessing the information needed to make important decisions about aged care can be overwhelming for anyone. But it is especially difficult if you’re from a culturally and linguistically diverse background (CALD).

While many of us associate aged care with nurses, they only make up around 20% of employees. This dynamic workforce is comprised of other roles such as personal care assistants, support workers, lifestyle coordinators, etc.

Different flavours, textures, colours and presentation is defining the new food movement slowly gaining momentum across the residential aged care sector.

While Graham Mabury’s new show is a podcast and not talkback radio, he still loves to hear from listeners. In this episode it’s time to ask Baptistcare CEO Russell Bricknell and aged care expert Duncan Guy some of the most common questions and queries.

Graham Mabury meets Dolly Weaver, one of WA’s busiest seniors to find out how home care has kept her and husband Kenneth together in the family home while they both pursue their individual passions.

The hit ABC docuseries Old People’s Home for Four-Year-Olds showed us the positive physical and mental health benefits of intergenerational activities involving seniors.

We all want to transition into our later years feeling happy, enriched and connected, but for many of us thinking about ageing and the care and support we might need can be daunting.

In this episode we are out to bust the myths and get an insider’s view on how life changes when you move into an aged care facility. Is the old-fashioned nursing home stereotype still the reality or have things changed?

Retirement is a life-stage that seems to evoke either great joy or great fear. Some of us can’t wait to down tools, stop the daily commute and say goodbye to endless meetings while for others there is a sense of impending dread as retirement approaches.

The prevalence of dementia poses a number of challenges for the aged care sector as well as families who are caring for a loved one impacted by the condition.

As humans, we naturally crave connection with others and perhaps never more so than when we enter our latter years. While there’s no medical prescription to treat loneliness and social isolation, the gift of time from strangers is proving to be a powerful antidote for residents living in aged care facilities.

While every person on our planet is unique, we all share the human experience. We are born, and we eventually die. Yet while we freely celebrate and share stories and experiences of birth, the subject of death has never been treated in quite the same way.
