Lifelong friends, Helen Kingsbury and Suzette Box have always been close, so when it came time to think about retirement living it wasn’t that surprising that Helen and her husband, Brian would join Suzette and her husband Cyril at the same retirement village.
Helen and Suzette had reviewed and visited a number of villages in their search for the perfect retirement living complex but once they found Baptistcare Riverside Village, Salter Point, the search was over and the decision was soon made.
Riverside is stylish and modern and offers retirement apartment living at its best with exceptional facilities, beautifully manicured gardens, secure parking, emergency call system, air conditioning for all-year comfort and plenty of room to entertain family and friends without the burden of maintenance, strata fees or the hassle of gardening.
Riverside was chosen because it offered the lifestyle they were all searching for, as Helen Kingsbury explained.
“We feel part of a community and can participate in as much or as little of the activities on offer with complete privacy and no intrusion.”
“If we wanted to keep to ourselves we could simply drive into the under-ground carpark and take the elevator to our floor and not see a single person,” she said.
Both couples believe that it is vital to make a lifestyle move before health issues overtake and personal choice is no longer an option.
Like Brian and Helen, Suzette Box said that she and her husband, Cyril, a retired police officer, had decided that they were ready for a change and to start the next chapter of their lives.
Five years later, they all agree that the move was the best decision they have ever made and couldn’t be happier.
“There is so much to do here, it is like being on a cruise. No worries, no responsibilities and there is always help at hand if we need it,” Suzette said.
“It was important for us to move while we were still fit and healthy and could enjoy what was on offer at Riverside.”
Suzette loves gardening and leads a gardening group at Riverside allowing her to still enjoy a hobby she loves.
While Riverside encourages engagement with their residents, it is not compulsory with all amenities, including the all-weather, heated swimming pool, bowling green, gymnasium, movie theatre and function areas available to everyone. A weekly pool physiotherapy session is a popular activity for many residents.
Theme nights, barbeques and bowling tournaments are part of a range of activities available for those who wish to attend and participate.
As a member of the Residents Committee, Brian Kingsbury believes the layout and the atmosphere at Riverside was one of the deciding factors for their move.
“The design is open plan and very spacious and we have plenty of room to entertain friends, family and the grandchildren,” he said.
Cyril enjoys tinkering in the Community Shed in his spare time with both men saying that being at Riverside has kept their friendship alive because they don’t have to drive anywhere to catch up and have a drink.
Baptistcare Riverside Retirement Village comprises 81 apartments ranging from two bedrooms to three bedrooms and two bathrooms and are available on a lease for life contractual agreement.
