Posted: 23rd Jun 2011

Residents and staff of Graceford Hostel in Byford had the pleasure of celebrating for the first time, a 100th birthday of one of its residents on Friday 17 June 2011.

Joined by family and friends, Mrs Marian Kidd’s 100 year milestone was celebrated with a morning tea, speeches from family and a visit from the Darling Range MLA, Mr Tony Simpson.

Mr Simpson presented Mrs Kidd with messages from the Queen, the Prime Minister, Governor General and the District of Darling Range to mark this momentous occasion.

Baptistcare Chief Executive Officer, Dr Lucy Morris, attended the celebrations and presented Mrs Kidd with a certificate on behalf of Baptistcare. Expressing her congratulations and appreciation of the rich life Mrs Kidd has led, Dr Morris expressed her thanks on behalf of the staff of Baptistcare for the privilege of being able to share in Mrs Kidd’s life during her stay at Graceford.

Mrs Judith Gluyas, daughter of Mrs Kidd, reflected on her mother’s “far from ordinary life”, describing her as a “free-spirit” in the generations before doing your own thing was the norm.

Manager Residential Care, Mrs Zofia Graham was in attendance at the event which she believed to be a great inspiration to all of the staff and residents at Graceford Hostel.

“Marian’s milestone has given us all the encouragement to fulfil our dreams and goals in life, overcoming any obstacles that may confront us,” she said.

Momentos and photographs were on display from Mrs Kidd’s childhood, career as a nurse and other accomplishments throughout her century long life.
