Capecare’s Community Spirit during Bushfire Emergency
Capecare Ray Village opened their home and their hearts to Baptistcare residents and staff last week as bushfires threatened our Mirrambeena residential aged care facility in Margaret River.
Mirrambeena, home to 44 residents, was evacuated last Thursday afternoon with residents relocated to the nearby towns of Busselton and Manjimump.
Welcoming our staff and residents with open arms, warm drinks and fresh beds, Capecare Ray Village in Busselton responded to our call for help instantaneously.
With only a short time to prepare for the entry of 23 Baptistcare residents, Capecare Ray Village convened staff, began planning and found room in their boardroom, office, lounge area and bedrooms to accommodate our residents.
Mirrambeena Manager Residential Care Vicki Leishman expressed how grateful she is for the assistance and cooperation of Capecare in our hour of need.
“I am very appreciative of the care and kindness that the Capecare Ray Village staff extended to us.”
“It is a huge task to take on 23 more residents into a facility, it requires much organisation and extra planning, hours and energy from all staff.”
Vicki felt the staff at Capecare treated our residents like royalty commenting that “they could not have been treated more respectfully or kindly”.
“Capecare also welcomed our staff, gave them meals and made sure they were accommodated over night.”
Returning to their Mirrambeena Margaret River home late last Friday afternoon, our residents were glad to be home despite feeling like they had been on holiday or an adventure during their stay at Capecare Ray Village.
Baptistcare is eternally grateful for the support of our local communities during this emergency with many volunteers turning up at both our Mirrambeena residential care facility and at Capecare Ray Village as soon as the word got out that our residents were being evacuated and relocated.
