Baptistcare Prepares to Evacuate Residents

Posted: 24th Nov 2011

Baptistcare CEO Dr Lucy Morris has announced preparations are underway to evacuate residents from its aged care and retirement village in Margaret River, in response to the bushfires in the South West.

“We are notifying families,” Dr Morris said, “and helping residents to gather their essential belongings together ready for evacuation.”

“We have been bringing in buses from our other facilities and ambulances are on stand by.”

“We are relocating residents by bus to Baptistcare’s other facilities,  William Carey Court in Busselton and Moonya in Manjimup and have received generous offers of support from other providers including Capecare’s Ray Village in Busselton.”

“I particularly appreciate the work of the local staff who are accompanying residents and will stay with them  over this period, while many are also concerned about their own properties and safety of their families. Staff at Baptistcare’s William Carey Court are on standby ready to help.”

“We are working closely with local emergency services and the Department of Health and Aging. I have great confidence in our staff who are ensuring the situation is being managed appropriately.”

“Our prayers are with the communities we serve, our staff and residents,  who are pulling together in response to the bushfires.”

“Our primary focus is on the residents and making sure they have appropriate care and are safe.”

“For emergency information, please contact FESA: 1300 657 209.”
