Baptistcare and TADWA recycle old computer equipment

Posted: 8th Aug 2011

Baptistcare has partnered up with Technology Assisting Disabilities WA (TADWA), an organisation which aims to assist the quality of life for people living with disabilities through the use of technology.

Baptistcare’s Lynne Clutterbuck, with the assistance of IT team member Brendan Wight, have helped to recycle the company’s old keyboards and mice from the Welshpool offices.

The equipment, which was delivered last week, will be used to build computer systems specifically designed for people with disabilities.

The idea originally came to Lynne when she would frequently pass by the organisation, which is situated in the same area as Baptistcare’s community living houses.

When asked about her feelings toward the initiative, Lynne simply says that “Its not just about the people we support, its about the whole community and looking at the bigger picture.”

TADWA’s work involves creating customised aids and equipment to help improve a person’s ability to enjoy life and live permanently in the community.

Lynne’s thinking outside the square demonstrates one of Baptistcare’s stated values – stewardship of the responsibilities in our care, as well as making a move toward environmental sustainability.
